Balanced Equation
 4Mg+O2→ 2Mg2O

My balanced equation is  4Mg+O2→ 2Mg2O. We started with magnesium in our crucible and oxygen in the air and fire. When we heated the Magnesium the Oxygen mixed with the Magnesium. The chemical reaction attached Oxygen with Magnesium after we used fire to heat the Magnesium. Since Oxygen is in fire, that is probably where the Oxygen mixed with Magnesium and how the Magnesium lights up.
