Red Wire
Black Wire
Water
Beaker
2 TubesBattery
Physical Description
Before:
There was a red and black wire that we had put into tubes with water, each wire in one tube. And then connected the battery
After:
Tubes had wires in it, with the battery connected. There were bubbles moving from the wire to the top of the tube.
Quantitative MeasurmentsBefore:
The battery's mass was 46.21g
After:
The battery's mass was 46.21
The gas in red wired tube was .5cm
The gas in black wired tube was 2.5cm
Balanced Equation
H2O→2H+O
My balanced equation is H20→2H+O. I got this by seeing how the amount of water decreased while Hydrogen increased. The wires that were put into the tubes were connected to a battery so it gave off electric charge. This made gas form in the tube and the water level decreased while the amount of gas increased. So the chemical equation shows the before, water, which turned into oxygen and two hydrogen. We tested to see if it was gas in the top of the tubes by using fire. We heard a pop when letting the gas hit the fire and that is how we knew it was Hydrogen. The Oxygen didn’t make a noise, the flame got brighter, that is how we knew it was oxygen.
